In November 2022, Amani Family Services, through the Welcoming Fort Wayne initiative, announced its partnership with Greater Fort Wayne, Inc. and the Downtown Fort Wayne Improvement District for the Gateways for Growth Challenge.

Over the past year, these organizations, known as the Gateways For Growth Core Team, worked together with the support of technical advisors to create a community narrative, backed by data, in an effort to highlight the importance of inclusion. Fort Wayne is one of only ten localities selected to participate this year in the national initiative.

Through the use of census information and gathering the local voices of nearly 800 residents, our community can access the latest set of data regarding the impact of immigrants and refugees in Allen County and the state of belonging in our community.

The next phase of this project requires community action. In January, the Core Team released the Welcoming Fort Wayne Plan. The plan which covers the several sectors of Fort Wayne/Allen County will require a community-wide effort to implement and execute the recommendations and strategies.
